  ok, this is a brain fart i had last night as i was falling asleep.. growing up jw i somehow developed the belief that women were not made in the image of jehovah, as men were, hence we were inferior to men, and therefore the requirement to be subservient.

  it's been so long that i don't know if this was the teaching or my assumption.. counterpoint:.

  god created adam in his image.. god then took one of adam's ribs and created eve (sounds more akin to cloning to me, after all it's only one silly chromosome that separates the sexes).. eve was created from adam who was made in god's image.. hence eve is made in god's image.. personally, i think when god made adam, he said "i can do better than that!".

  Any one got a 440 engine ?

  really i am looking for a 440 big block for a 68 dodge charger.

  now i have a very tired 383. for those who know engines would it be better to rebuild the 383 or replace it with a 440. i am having a hard time finding a big block motor .

  If you cant find a 440, then a rebuild would probobly be your best bet. JC Whitney should carry all the after market parts you need. (you could bore out the original engine and get just as much HP).

  I had read somewhere (watchtower information service I think) that the society was planning on moving the computer related bethelites from Walkill back to Brooklyn. Dont know if it is true or not...will try to find the link.

  Leolaia,

  Alot of fundy christians ASSume it is there (in the rib story). They insinuate that the male was created directly by god, and that he was first. We poor women were an afterthought and were made from the man. The story just gets worse as it goes along doesnt it?

  Neon is correct. Also, the Hebrew word "Adam" means Mankind (the male and female).

  It boggles my mind that the old "adam and eve" story is still being taught in some churches. Nevermind that most every bible translation has a footnote explaining the above, they go right on making men dominate and godly and women subservient and needy. Sigh....

  Where have I been?

  for those of you who know me, i want to let you know what has been happening lately.. on july 8th, i went in for emergency colon cancer surgery.

  the tumor was removed but some malignancy was found in a few lymph nodes so chemo was recommended.

  i had my first of 12 treatments last week and appear to be doing okay without any side effects.. your prayers and best wishes are appreciated very much.

  did you ever wonder why the watchtower fusses over such silly and minute rules?

  things like smoking, dress, music, dance, movies, language, what company you keep, what and how you celebrate?

  let's consider a few factors.

  Been there, saw that. Yes indeed. On the congregational level, I think most of us experienced this. I hold my opinion that it is encouraged as being a "strong christian" to behave in this way. Perhaps some are just too darned embarrassed to admit it, but I think it is true. That was my perception.

  Our congregation was totally paranoid about each other. There were perhaps five families who attended meetings, and boy could we spread out! We carefully seated ourselves away from the "questionable" ones. Ones who in our opinion were not as "spiritual" as we considered ourselves. Shameful, but true.

  And boy would we (and others) put on a show when the CO came around. Full parking lot, on those evenings I tell you.

  So my point is, are we evil for doing such things? Surely such nonsense would be condemned by the authority of the watchtower...But no. Not only is it not condemned, it is ENCOURAGED. It is taught and promoted from the gb.

  Of such was the point of my post. Thanks for your comments BEM.
